The Heroes of Fantasy Quiz
They slice. They dice. They bash their way through hordes of foes. They are the heroes of fantasy and just below is a list of some of the greatest. Can you pick out the hero on the right who goes with the author on the left?
Twelve to fifteen correct means you know your bloodthirsty authors like Conan knows ale. Eight to eleven correct is pretty good but you’re not as bloodthirsty as you might like others to believe. Four to seven correct definitely means you’re squeamish at the sight of crimson gore. Below four correct? I’m afraid you’re just not an “army of one.”

just 10. Afraid I never had time for Gardner Fox (after reading two quite awful things), or David Gemmell. Alas, also not Smith, Wagner, or even much of Anderson’s fantasy — and all of those might be regrettable misses.
Gardner Fox was actually the first S&S stuff I read because it was available in my small town library so I read quite a bit of it. Wagner’s Kane is truly inspired. Gemmell’s midcareer stuff is as good as any of it. Anderson’s Broken Sword is my favorite fantasy work of all time.
I knew eleven and didn’t guess on the ones I didn’t know. I guess that makes me part civilized and part bloodthirsty barbarian, probably not a bad mix as long as you know when to be the right one.

I got them all. Mainly because it focused on heroic fantasy.
I’ve been a fantasy fan since the late 70’s.

Mixed up Farmer and Anderson, and I honestly didn’t know who Hadon and Skafloc are, but knew all the rest.. I’m pretty happy with that grade.

15/15. Well, technically 14/15 but I used the process of elimination to get that one; and once I saw it, it was one I would have known if I’d given it some thought.
Now how many of those have I actually READ …? A somewhat lower number.
I’ve been at it a very long time.
11 out of 15 so I guess I’m more comfortable behind high stone walls but not averse to raiding forgotten temples in the wilderness. I’ll take that, thanks for the quiz :o)

Got ’em all right. And some of them I haven’t even read. I attribute it to longevity, retention, and fannishness, with the result that one knows about things even when one doesn’t know the things themselves. Feeling smug. Also, that maybe I need to do some more reading.
yes, we certainly do pick up some stuff by osmosis from our exposure to the genre but it’s still fair.
15/15, though admittedly the Akers answer was process of elimination.

I surprised myself by getting them all, but only by guessing right on the Smith, Gemmell and Farmer. Nice job of mixing in some secondary heroes here…many thanks for what was clearly a fun time for many readers, judging by the response!
