Michael Canfield has been a very busy guy.

In the past few weeks he’s published a novel and two short story collections, and re-published two novellas that originally appeared exclusively in digital format. A pretty impressive accomplishment, no matter how you look at it.

Bad People (August 2)
Stairwell to Hell: and Nine Other Stories to Disturb You (August 9)
The Woods Wife & Other Tales of Mystery & Magic (August 10)
Scaffolds (August 17)
Super-Villains (August 18)

It’s like Michael Canfieldpaloza! But without all the headache over parking.

Michael Canfield is one of the most talented new writers on the fantasy scene. His superb story “The Whited Child” first appeared in Black Gate 9.

Bad People is a crime novel, a genre Michael’s had a lot of success in, with his earlier novels Perfect Likeness and Exhibit A. Stairwell to Hell is a collection that gathers ten tales of strange beings, a mysterious house that appears suddenly, a vast wine cellar containing an ancient gateway, and “Wierd” (sic) terrors. Here’s the (sadly rather typo-ridden) description:

Disturbances in The Fabric of Reality

Beneath a vast wine cellar, the last descendent (sic) of a doomed lineage discovers a gateway… and an ancient, terrible secret.

Strange Origins

A CIA operative and a mysterious being form a deep — and deadly — bond.

Dark Secrets

In small, unnamed seaside town, one man has a job to do. An endless, impossible job.

Wierd (sic) terrors

A mysterious, impenetrable house suddenly appears in an upscale neighborhood, exerting a dark, irresistible influence over a troubled couple.

And More. Ten Bizarre Stories in All:

“Stairwell to Hell”
“The Book of Thomas Welte”
“Solid House”
“The Common Knight”
“Transporter Technology”
“Nameless Man”
“Citadel Ninety-Nine”
“Too Much Information About Joss Kaffee”
“The Language of Monsters”
“The Story Boat”

The Woods Wife contains six longer tales of magic and forgotten lands:

Tales of Times That Never Were

A young villager meets a mythical being in the forest, finding her life changed forever. An artisan discovers a distant, seemingly idyllic village and a peculiar secret.

Magic

And an ambition young queen struggles to secure a kingdom — with or without the help of a mysterious imp.

Mystery

The last good man flees an accursed city with his daughters, only to confront a remnant of the impossible in the wastelands.

Adventure

A happy-go-lucky traveler meets his polar opposite on the roads, becoming inextricably drawn to her.

Romance

A girl, a boy, a villain, and a crowded Viennese café. Hundreds of performances, always ending the same. Until now.
