Patty on Podcastle!

Tuesday, January 24th, 2012 | Posted by C.S.E. Cooney

bgpatty2Don’t you love it when alliteration works out like that? I do.

You know what else I love? Patty Templeton’s story, “Fruit Jar Drinkin’, Cheatin’ Heart Blues.” On Podcastle. Right now.

Templeton is one of our bold and bonny bloggers here at Black Gate Magazine. (Here is her recent interview with Jeff VanderMeer.) Templeton herself was recently interviewed about her story “Fruit Jar Drinkin’, Cheatin’ Heart Blues” (which title I will repeat as often as possible, because isn’t it a FRIKKIN GREAT TITLE???) on Silver Goggles.

“Fruit Jar Drinkin’, Cheatin’ Heart Blues” is one of fifteen “thrilling and ingenious tales” in the new anthology Steam-Powered II. I can’t say too much about the anthology; after all, Yours Truly is one of the authors featured therein, so you’ll never be able to believe a word I say!

Just kidding — it’s great! Of course it is! Patty’s in it!  So is S.L. Knapp, Jaymee Goh, Sean Holland, Jeannelle Ferreira, A.M. Tuomala, Nisi Shawl, Stephanie Lai, Alex Dally MacFarlane, Rebecca Fraimow, Nicole Kornher-Stace, Shveta Thakrar and Zen Cho. What’s not to like, man? Or, more appropriately in this case: WOMAN?

  1. Patty Templeton!!! She must be mine.

C.S.E. Cooney! Tell me the secrets to Patty’s heart. There’s a ten-spot in it for you.

  2. Alfred, you rogue, I knew her first and know also where my true loyalties lie.

Besides, I don’t even know what a ten-spot is, so it’s pretty difficult to bribe me. Now, if you said something like… “DIAMONDS!” then, you know, maybe we could work something out.

  3. If I could afford diamonds, Templeton would be mine already.

Anyway, it’s too late. I spent the ten bucks on shrinkwrapped games on eBay. Forgive me, Patty! It was not meant to be.

  4. I am convinced that when the glaciers melt and the world becomes one Ocean, then you, John O’Neill, will build a raft made solely out of shrink-wrapped RPGs. You will be the Noah of the New Age. Your raft will be as big as St. Charles at least!

  5. John, a ten spot woulda gotten you to the corner of Nowhere and NotThisTime.

But speaking of diamonds, aren’t these pretty?

Ok, so they’re not real. Still hot though.

  6. @Cooney: Thanks for the blog abt the story. Have I mentioned I adore you?

Not lately? Well, I adore you.

  7. The adoration, Templeton, is mutual and also PERPETUAL!

Now I go to look at your DIAMONDS!

  8. Wait a minute… I’m the one offering up my last ten bucks for the secret to your heart, and C.S.E. gets all the adoration?

    I see how it is.

As for the diamond setting… a Diva Drag Queen Crystal Show Girl Swarovski Necklace??? Wow. I don’t think I’ve ever seen three of those words used in a single sentence before before, let alone all 8.

If this is the way to your heart, I’m looking at some lonely years. Tell me truthfully… how do you feel about a mint condition 1970s Tunnels & Trolls boxed set, still in the shrink? If that warms your heart, we could be in business.
