<description>Reacher also has been compared to the knight errant -- particularly because the formula is a woman who needs saving -- and the Shane trope character in westerns -- who also tend to rescue women -- as well as possessing supreme warrior compentencies.

Your reaction to the first Reacher novel you read is much like everyone else's reaction to the first Reacher novel they read. But like so many of us who had read several or all of the previous Reachers then, by the time &lt;i&gt;Nothing to Lose&lt;/i&gt; came out, found it a wee disappointment for a variety of reasons -- meaning we felt disappointed a bit for different reasons, not the same reasons.

But it was deeply interesting to me, as a reader, that by the time this book was being written, neither Reacher nor his creator could ignore the current national mess. So many readers like to believe Reacher is non-political, but he does have a very strong code of ethics and morality, and he understands where he stands on anything thoroughly via that code. Further, this invasion, finally, of the mess created by the then regime in D.C., into fiction of all kinds, including non-industrial Fantasy series, showed up everywhere by 2008.
